Just two days ago, WordPress has released the new version i.e. WordPress 3.4. While it was predicted that there will be many new features added, the prediction came out to be correct. If you haven’t updated your WordPress installation, we recommend you to do a single button upgrade. In this article, we will highlight all the new features in WordPress 3.4 for bloggers/users and developers too.
So here we go:
Live Preview and Theme Customizer
One of the best feature added in WordPress 3.4 is the theme customizer. It will prove out to be helpful for both user and developers because you will be able to customize your theme without any knowledge of PHP, HTML & CSS. All you need to do is just clicks of button and modify accordingly. it also allows user to customize a theme without activating it. This makes it easier for user to modify and have a look before the theme goes live. The theme customizer can be seen at Appearence » Themes, with “Live Preview” option available for every theme.
Some people are also seeing this as WordPress’s reply to theme editor tool which was earlier published by Blogger.
oEmbed powered Easy Tweets Embedding
In the earlier versions, if you wanted to embed a tweet into post, then you were required to use a plugin. But in WordPress 3.4, you can embed tweets just like embedding videos inside post. You are only required to add the link to your tweet in a new line.and the tweets get embedded along with reply, retweet, favorite, and follow features. I personally liked this feature very much. Check the example below:
WordPress 3.4 Released. I am loving it. Will be using this tweet in post at #shoutability 🙂
Custom Header Improvements
Custom header feature was added in WordPress 3.0, in that there was a requirement to have a specified width and height, else the image used to get distorted. But in WordPress version 3.4, flexible headers can be added. More about this can be seen at the Codex.
Aslso, you can even add custom header or background images from your Media Library too.
HTML in Image Captions
Now in Image captions, you can also add links. This can be easily used to give credit to original image source. Check out the example below:
Improved Page Templates Organisation
Some of the WordPress themes or bigger site has an array of Page Templates which sometimes become complex to be handled.Till now, all page template files were there inside the theme folder. Now in WordPress 3.4 and higher versions, all page templates will be automatically identified from the theme folder or in any other sub-directory of a theme folder. This can be really helpful because you can now make a /pages/ sub-directory inside the theme’s folder.
Other Random Improvements
