Upgrade HTC Desire Z with ParanoidAndroid ROM ICS

For those who have some knowledge about Android and custom ROM installation must be having an idea about the power of ParanoidAndroid and this time it is the HTC Desire Z users who will get its taste. For those who have no idea about it, it is a custom ROM which allows user to feel and enjoy the tablet like interface.

Important Note: Although, we have taken the ROM link from a very reliable developer(XDA-Forum), yet go for this upgrade at your own risk as neither this site nor the author would be responsible for any problem in upgradation. However, this happens rarely. Also you would lose warranty of the hardware(if any).

The upgradation Process has been divided into two parts:

  • Pre-Upgardation.
  • Final Upgradation.

Please follow all the steps given below in the order they are given and donot skip any step in between.

Pre-Upgradation

Follow these steps with a little care. If you have any problem, feel free to ask-

  1. First of all check the phone version. It should be HTC Desire Z only (Check at Settings> About Phone). Do not upgrade if you have some other version.
  2. We advice you to take a backup of your existing ROM by using Nandroid Backup and Restore App from XDA.
  3. You can also take backup of some important data such as SMS, Contacts etc.
  4. Make sure that your phone is at-least 85% charges. If it isn’t, we advice you charge your phone first.
  5. Next, disable all the anti-virus on your Device. Also uninstall all the Kies from your computer.
  6. Now enable USB Debugging on your cellphone (Option available at Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging ).

  • Hi Ankit,

Thank you for your useful column. I’m about to receive my HTC Desire Z and upgrading it’s OS is my first desire. May I know if there are features that won’t work after this upgrade? The Wifi perhaps? What about Data/Network? Sound/Music?

I hope you will shed light to my questions.

    Regards,

    Ramon Ang
