How to Embed Videos in WordPress Posts

As it is rightly said that ‘Action speaks louder than words do’. Sometimes during blogging, there is a need to show a video to readers in order to explain something to them in a better way. Specially during tutorials, a video of 100 seconds can explain it more deeply than a 1000 word article.
Till the WordPress version 2.9, the bloggers were required to switch to ‘Edit HTML’ mode and then paste the entire embed code taken from video featuring sites such as Youtube and Dailymotion. To make it simple, many of the bloggers used plugins to insert videos in blog posts.
But in the newer versions of WordPress (2.9+), it is very easy to embed a video in post.
All you need to do is paste the video URL within the post content area. Please make sure that entire URL is in a single line and is not clickable i.e. donot hyperlink it with the URL.
For example: If you want to insert a Youtube video with url ‘http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ID’, then just paste it at the place where you want the video to be displayed.
However the above method of embeding videos work with only following sites:

  • YouTube
  • DailyMotion
  • Vimeo
  • Flickr (both videos and images)
  • Blip.tv
  • Google Videos
  • WordPress.tv
  • SmugMug
  • FunnyorDie.com
  • Scribd
  • PollDaddy

If you have video from some other website, then you are required to paste the entire embed code.
Also, bloggers do ask me as to Why not upload video on my own site. For such users, I would say that as most of the small site owner runs on shared hosting packages and if one the videos you’ve uploaded becomes a hit and get around million views, then you might end up with crashing your site due to excessive hosting bandwidth usage.
We would recommend bloggers to create a youtube channel for themselves and use it for uploading all your videos for free.
